The History

In August 2002, the worldwide media reported on the facts: Women all over the world were putting themselves at risk by using Premarin and Provera HRT. Researchers were so alarmed with their results; they prematurely terminated the Women's Health Initiative study, which showed great risks associated with the widely used HRT. An increased risk of Breast Cancer (26%), Coronary heart Disease (29%), Stroke (41%) and Pulmonary embolism (113%) was attributed to prolonged use of combined (Premarin/Provera) oral HRT.

The risks were known for many years, yet not widely publicized. In 1975, the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine showed women on synthetic estrogen were 7.6 times more likely to develop Endometrial Cancer.

Long-term users were at even greater risk. Women who used Estrogen for seven or more years were 14 times more likely than non-users to develop endometrial cancer.

Synthetic estrogen has been linked to Breast Cancer, ovarian cancer, gall bladder and liver disease and diabetes - amongst other possible side effects.

Harvard Medical School researchers reviewed articles on MEDLINE, finding a relationship between Synthetic hormones and the incidence of Breast Cancer. They found that postmenopausal synthetic hormones could increase a woman's risk of Breast Cancer.

Upon the release of this news, women all over the world were shocked and dismayed. They felt confused and frustrated at the lack of answers from the doctors that had put them on these potentially dangerous drugs. Increasingly, women were looking for alternatives, and finding them hard to locate.
